UL & CSA Approved Cables -Safety first for US Market
NEPA 79, new edition 2007 states that it does not allow the use of AWM cables in industrial machinery. The only machines that will be accepted are ones that are wired with listed cables, suitable for its intended application.
This means that mechanical and industrial plant engineering companies while need to make changes in development, planning and production methods. This is due to machinery wiring that is not certified for use will not be allowed. If the code is not followed, then the machinery could be rejected from the industry and therefore go to waste. Resulting in a loss of resources and the company possibly losing important factors such as development time.
AWM stands for Appliance Wiring Material. It refers to Cables and wires that are intended for use in listed electrical equipment, devices and appliances that are fully wired at the factory. AWM is not intended for field wiring purposes of any sort. The cables that are AWM recognised are the only wires that can be used for the applications listed in their own individual style description.
Lapp recommend that all applications with AWM cables should be switched to listed cables which are suited for that specific application. This will ultimately make the labelling process safer and much more reliable. Lapp also offer their help and services by supplying listed cable alternatives for your specific applications.
The UL & CSA Approved Cables are cables and wires of this category that are intended for use as fixed wiring for projects such as buildings used for residential, commercial or industrial purposes. However, these cables can also be used as flexible connecting leads for some movable electrical equipment.
